It was destiny that I met Tricia.....I met her through her Mom, Yvette at church.....I believed in God, but wasn’t overly religious....I was struggling or grasping at anything for my child to healed of Autism. Tricia was a pure example of faith, God and religion. Tricia went on to create our group for Special Needs Parents; this group has been together for seven years......while some have come and gone in our group we are forever intertwined.
What this group means to me.....it means opening my heart up, crying and saying whatever comes to mind without judgment. This group of special needs parents are my best friends that will help me when I am in need, and they know when to boost me up or each other up. Being part of this group has allowed me to grow as a Christian, to have a relationship with God, don’t get me wrong I have my ups and downs, but this group brings me into reality. As I have grown to have a relationship with God, I realize having a special needs child is a gift, full of joy and heartache.....with lots of emotions. I am thankful I have this group to share this with.
I recently bought a sign with a saying that sums up our group:
THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A REASON WHY YOU MEET PEOPLE
EITHER YOU NEED THEM
TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE
OR YOU’RE THE ONE THAT
WILL CHANGE THEIRS
I truly believe I needed them to change mine.
I love them all and will be forever grateful.
